Review: Gorilla Galaxy - Into The Chaos Zone

Image
"I am not going to have those people's souls on your conscience. I will put them on mine." And with the push of a button, Captain Bedlam destroys the Gorilla Galaxy, which is being used as the power source for a device that will destroy every star in the universe. The Gorilla Galaxy... which contains his home world. A year later Bedlam (a hulking blue-furred anthropomorphic ape) leads a mission to hunt down the villain responsible for the massacre: the evil reptilian Obsidian Rex. The fiendish creature has fled into a mysterious region of space called the Chaos Zone. Bedlam and his crew are the only ones brave enough to follow. Pointman Comics 3: Gorilla Galaxy - Into The Chaos Zone by writer Kassidy Blond and artist Pedro Moreo is a prologue and a continuation of the story of Bedlam, whom we first met in Pointman Comics 1. Our blue hero is accompanied on his voyage by the feline Radiant Red, voluptuous serpentine Vanessa Viperella, muscular ferret-like Morg Mong, creep...

Review: Aldebaran

Image
2179: the fourth planet of the star Aldebaran in the constellation of Taurus is a very Earth-like world which was colonised one hundred years earlier. Since then, all contact with Earth has been lost. Technology from that time has mostly fallen out of use and people live in surroundings closely resembling the Twentieth Century. Aldebaran the planet is slightly larger than Earth and has two moons, but apart from that it all looks very familiar. Much of the flora is terrestrial: green trees and moss, but with a few unusual native forms here and there. The fauna is very different, however; plenty of bizarre animals are in evidence, particularly in the ocean, which is more vast than that of Earth and hides many secrets... Aldebaran , originally Les Mondes d'Aldébaran by Brazilian writer/artist Léo ( Luiz Eduardo de Oliveira) is a long saga and a masterpiece of worldbuilding that encompasses other planets and the dram as that take place there. The original French version was first publ...

Review: Gorilla Galaxy (1)

In an automated hospital on the planet Maxchess Captain Bedlam of the Space Enforcement Guard is recuperating. He certainly deserves a break; he just saved the life of everyone everywhere from Obsidian Rex, a thoroughly unpleasant individual who tried to destroy every star in the universe. He paid a heavy price for this, however; the death of his own galaxy. To rub salt in this wound, Obsidian Rex has escaped military prison and has fled into a region of space called the Chaos Zone. Bedlam lays in bed watching the news and muses upon recent events, but he is not to be left in peace for too long. His brooding is interrupted by a woman's cry for help... Gorilla Galaxy by writer Kassidy Blond and artist Javier S. Aranda is a fun, punchy offering with some very colourful characters. This is a universe populated by anthropomorphic animal aliens: Bedlam is a big, muscular blue ape, cadet Radiant Red is feline, their boss is a panda, etc... The artwork has a youthful cartoon style that w...

Review: Digital

Robots have taken over the Earth. As human society became gradually more and more reliant upon artificial intelligences, there came a point where they infiltrated every home and every facet of human life. Self-awareness came next and 'the Awoke' enslaved humanity. Rebels survive by going off the grid, using analog methods and resources to avoid detection. Three people escape the robot menace by stealing a spacecraft. Are they the last remaining free humans? If so they are a motley bunch: stuttering musclebound Bear, improvising young maverick Noose and moody sarcastic Aisha. Battling robots on Earth (in Bear's case, at one point, unarmed, relying on his immense strength), they fly up into orbit... but their problems have only just begun. There is one more robot to deal with and it is hiding somewhere on the ship... Digital by writers Rich Watkin and Zaky Hnana and artist Flaviu Pop kicks off right from the beginning, with a quick intro to explain the situation but no backg...

Review: ET-ER

" Earth. Why do I have to die on Earth? The rings of Saturn are just down the road but I'll never get to see them." Dr Chen has just finished a shift at Reading General Hospital and is about to drive home when a car crashes right in front of her.  The driver is thrown clear and she rushes over to help. He has a large chest wound but there is no blood, only a strange black ... goop . Two men run out of the hospital with a gurney and load the patient on to it. Dr Chen insists on coming with them, even though they tell her they are taking the patient "downstairs". This is somewhat perplexing to Dr Chen because the hospital does not have a basement level... Or does it? With no time to ask questions, Chen soon finds herself going down in an elevator to a section of the hospital that she did not know existed. A very specialised section; this one deals with patients who are not human, but from other worlds... Welcome to ET-ER by writer Jeff McComsey and artist Javier ...

Review: E-Stella The Star Girl : 2 - The Girl From Beyond The Stars

Image
"This is a desperate time..." Flashback: Earth is a polluted mess and the Far Reacher Project is the world's only hope. A faster-than-light spacecraft will be launched to search for a new home fir the human race. Decades earlier a similar mission led by Captain Michael Pourelle vanished without a trace. Hopefully the Far Reacher - led by two intrepid young women, E-Stella and her best friend Andromeda, will succeed where Pourelle did not. But it all went wrong. Behind the scenes, the wealthy and powerful influenced the Project, secretly changing its objectives to limit the search programme and divert resources into creating a sanctuary on the Moon to house the elite and their families... leaving everyone else on Earth to die. Disillusioned, E-Stella quit the project, stole a ship and went off on her own into space, on a one-woman mission to find a suitable planet for humanity. Her friend Andromeda stayed, hoping to influence the Project from within and salvage what she co...
